gynecologic oncology

Gynecologic cancer is the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells originating in the female reproductive organs-including the cervix, fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus, vaginal and vulva. Gynecologic cancer may be treated by specialized surgical procedures, radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy. Our clinical oncology department runs a large colonoscopy and cryosurgery clinic for early diagnosis and treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix, vulva, and vagina.

A gynecologic oncologist has very specialized training in the diagnosis, treatment and follow up care of gynecologic cancers. This doctor is able to perform surgery and and advise chemotherapy in order to treat and cure these serious conditions which include:

  • Cervical cancer
  • Endometrial/Uterine cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Pre-cancerous conditions of the reproductive tract
  • Primary peritoneal cancer
  • Sarcoma
  • Vaginal cancer
  • Vulvar cancer

In addition to malignancies of the genital tract a select number of gynecologic oncologists can provide comprehensive breast health evaluation, breast health assessment, and treatment for breast cancer.

Dr. John Knaus is a board-certified gynecologic oncologist with more that two decades of experience providing evaluation and consultation on breast health and breast disease as well as for genital tract disease. In addition to comprehensive evaluation and treatment he also provides genetic screening and individualized breast and pelvic dance risk assessment.
