UROGYNECOLOGY AND URINARY INCONTINENCE

Urinary issues and incontinence can occur in men and women, but most commonly occur in women. Incontinence affects 10-25% of women under age 65 and 15-30% of women over 60. Urinary incontinence sufferers do not have to experience symptoms all the time. More than half of women with incontinence symptoms do not tell their doctor due to embarrassment. Incontinence causes can range from illness (i.e. urinary tract infection), neuromuscular disorders, urinary tract abnormalities to pelvic support problems. There are many options for treatment: special exercises, diet alteration, medications, special devices (i.e. pessaries) and even surgical repair.

Dr. Jachtorowycz is board-certified in both general OBGYN as well as female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FPRMS, aka urogynecology) and has extensive experience with these treatment options as well as the variety of tests available to diagnose each patient.

  • Incontinence (involuntary loss of urine)
  • Urgency (strong desire to urinate)
  • Urinary frequency
  • Nocturia (the need to urinate two or more times during the night)
  • Dysuria (painful urination)
  • Enuresis (bed-wetting)
  • Incomplete emptying

ENDOMETRIOSIS

Endometriosis is a condition that affects women differently. For some it can be extremely painful while for others, mildly uncomfortable. Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining is found in places in the pelvis or abdomen outside the uterine cavity. Diagnosis is usually done with a combination of a symptom assessment and physical exam. To confirm this diagnosis a laparoscopy, a look inside your body cavity may be necessary. Endometriosis can be the cause of infertility as well as pain.

Some women may have many symptoms while others have only one symptom or none. Often women blame other causes for their symptoms, delaying diagnosis and treatment. Our physicians have experience in diagnosing and providing effective treatment. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms we encourage you to see your gynecologist to discuss them.

  • Pelvic pain
  • Pelvic pain with bowel movement
  • Pelvic pain with urination
  • Pelvic pain just before or during a menstrual cycle
  • Spotting between cycles
  • Pelvic pain with sexual intercourse
